We're always on the lookout for specialty books that do the job right, and Instone-Brewer's book on divorce in the NT world is one of these. Instone-Brewer tackles the issue from every which way but loose: from the Jewish perspective (from OT to rabbis) and the Greco-Roman perspective. We find it useful for hashing out a skeptic recently but we believe it would also be more helpful for people who want to know when, if at all, divorce is Biblically permissible.

Written in a very user-friendly way, Divorce and Remarriage in the Bible is a top-flight resource on this narrow topic.
