The Liberated Christians website stands for free sex between consenting adults, nudity, and all sorts of (ahem) fun stuff, but they have a few problems....like, how do we get rid of those OT laws that condemn all this fun stuff we want to do? It's never developed fully, but we are given a quick shot in an article titled, "Jesus Clearly DID CHANGE the OT Laws" -- not that he changed the ones Liberated from Contextual Exegesis has a problem with; but apparently they feel that if Jesus eased up on a couple, then he must have also eased up on all 600+, especially the ones they have problems with. That's also good news for those of you into bestiality and worshipping Baal, by the way.

In the article, our LC pals spend some time noting that Jesus summed up the law and the prophets with two commands (including a horrifying error that "Jesus was speaking to a mixed audience of Jews and Gentiles"!), do correctly note that Jesus came to supersede the OT, and provided his own guidelines on the Sermon on the Mount. The big problem is when we get to this part: "Even more startling, in three cases, on divorce, oaths and vows, and retaliation, Jesus revokes the letter of the Law and replaces it with his own diametrically opposed commands. Immediately after having said he has come to fulfill the scriptures, Jesus sets aside some of them!" He does? No, not quite. As each of the links show, what Jesus did in each case was strengthen and/or reaffirm each of these laws, taking to task a particular way in which they were being abused by his contemporaries to evade the law or excuse some behavior of theirs. Far from being "alterations," as our LC pals claim, these are actually reaffirmations (in line with the purpose of the law -- for more, see here, which also trumps LC's claims that Jesus broke sabbath and other laws).

It's worth closing with one particular verse that LC forgot when they were reading the Sermon on the Mount:

Matt. 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

It seems that if we see the LC crew in the hereafter at all, they'll be easy to spot: They'll be the ones in the janitorial outfits.
