Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy's Laughing Jesus (reviewed by "Punkish")
Plus, a reader sent us some ideas for the Christian myths article which we have developed. We also would like to offer (a little late) a fun link to an item on Santa Claus by a reader.
December 27, 2005
Okay! Well, it seems we made lemonade out of that lemon. Thanks to the little bandwidth issue yesterday I discovered that I was eligible for an upgraded hosting plan at no extra cost which multiplies my available server space by eight times and my bandwidth by about 10-12 times. So Classics is back in place, and the kid is in the candy store again. We'll close the year out on Friday with some long-overdue book reviews.
December 26, 2005
Whoops! We exceeded bandwidth today and got knocked off the air for a few hours. I think it's the Classics Library that's done it, so I'm taking it offline until January 2, by which time I'll figure out how to make sure that doesn't happen again next month.
December 23, 2005
Been busy wrapping up that freelance assignment, but a few things here:
More Classics additions. Readers may find of interest evidence presented that Washington and Lincoln were Christians.
Updated the page on the Tekton CD to reflect some new, er, realities associated with having a large collection like the Classics Library on board. :-)
Some more notes added to the Matthew and Mark Apologetics Bible Studies.
We also invite readers to visit this site and drop a note of encouragement or offer whatever other assistance they can.
I've picked up my annual cold (not as bad as some I've had!) and also gotten a freelance assignment with a close deadline, so there's not a lot from me here this past week.
And, we have a plug for a startup called Restoring Faith in Jesus by a former atheist. Stop by and take a peek! (With the usual notation that we do not endorse certain POV presenteed re: evolution-creation.)
December 2, 2005
Started in on the Mark Apologetics Bible Study; since Mark has little Matthew does not, this one will mostly be a matter of copying over what is in the Matthew study. For our next study, which I can work on in detail (I can still cull what I can from Tekton first) when the local seminary library re-opens for the new year, we'll do the Thessalonian correspondence.
A few more Classics Library additions as well (link below).
I did have an Interlude with the Youth but the battery on my recorder died. It was a question about the fate of those who never hear the Gospel, which I answered with material from here. We'll have more of these in January.
November 30, 2005
The new Tektoon: No Apologies! website is now operational. You'll notice (if you look around enough) that a lot of stuff has been moved from here to there; and more will be moved as time passes. This includes the Screwball of the Month feature, which is over there in the parody section.
As for here -- we have a few more additions to the Classics Library; some of this stuff (as from George Lyttelton and Gilbert West) is by former Skeptics. Note also our special page on rebuttals to Thomas Paine.
A few more items in the Classics Library (link below).
At reader request, a Nutshell entry on the virgin birth of Christ.
Also added to the item on animal hoofs with respect to camels not having one. Can't believe I missed that!
By next week I hope to have the new site running; watch for gradual changes here as we make the transition.
November 18, 2005
The expansion to the Classics Library is not quite complete but you will see now that we've expanded it into a singificant resource for preserving part of our apologetics heritage. Our thanks to W. R. Miller for his continued assistance and encouragement in this project!
Also, I've posted an "under construction" sort of page for the new website. We'll have the initial upload there on November 30th.
November 14, 2005
As noted, over the next week or so I'll be working on an expansion to the Classics Library; I'll be loading material for it every day until I'm done, but won't advise here on What's New until I am done.
Also, I've had a few requests about a site called "Why Does God Hate Amputees?" This is precisely the sort of site that my new policy was designed to keep me from wasting time on -- I checked it out and found nothing in the way of new arguments; nothing not covered here or by ie, the ThinkTank. That said, I'll use it as a first example, at a later date, of what I WILL do for such things, which is 1) offer a summary item here; 2) much later, parodize it on the new site I will be starting. And on that, I have reserved a domain name for it, tektoonics.com. Note the double O and the .com. I may be able to get this initially running in the next two weeks.
November 10, 2005
Well, so far everyone seems to like the new policy decision and if anything seems to think I took longer than needed to implement it. :-D Thanks to all also who made suggestions about PDF conversion. Next week we will see a major upgrade to the Classics library that will make it a significant preserver and accessory for apologetics works of the past; and that's in line with our upgraded policy as well. And so, time to implement that policy in earnest...look for the fruit of the change to appear when I get the new site online hopefully in February.
Meanwhile here's a picture of my little guy, Toby....he's so smart he might answer the Skeptics someday too.
November 8, 2005
Okay now! To get an idea how things will go in the future in many cases, please check out this entry in the Encyclopedia. If all I see is old news....that's all you'll see here.
Second, if anyone out there has a way to convert PDF files to Word, please drop me a line.
November 4, 2005
Before anything else, it is time to announce a change in policy and method here at Tekton. Please read this for details. No, it's not THAT bad.
Passel of new stuff in the Classics Library. Note especially Watson's reply to Gibbon -- we weren't the first to note Gibbon's deficiencies!
Updated the reply to Williams on Turek and Geisler now that another helper has arrived. (wink)
Would like to draw attention to a new review of Harpur's Pagan Christ by the Canadian scholar Gordon Heath here (PDF format)
By the way, I am still doing presentations to our youth group but because the last couple of questions have been stuff I've simply answered by taking material from my friends at Creation Ministries International I have not recorded it. And on another note, I wrote a guest piece for a Christian brother here on a website which allows discussion between members of the Sikh and Christian faiths.
October 31, 2005
Happy Reformation Day! Celebrate Martin Luther's big event by taping copies of the 95 Theses to people's doors while you're out tonight doing that other thing, whatever it is.
W. R. Miller presents us with a translation of one part of his "Truthfulness of the Bible" essay into Chinese (with English interspersed). We would appreciate it if any Chinese readers could look this over and note any problems.
It's time for the October 2005 Screwballs of the Month, plus some new Tekton Toons including the next installment in the Atheist Survivor series. There's also a link (there and on the front page) to the first of my new (non-apologetics) web comic starring Sheila Rangslinger's Range Patrol. This is a preview of a new site I hope to establish next year....and more on plans for that later this week.
October 28, 2005
We have a response to a chappy named Kyle Williams who wrote a rather insufficient dialogue/critique of Geisler and Turek's I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist. Once again though, I've turned it over to a special guest to handle, since that's about the level of response it requires...
By request, a look at arguments that the Bible permits, er, contact with the dead. Good grief.
We'd also like to alert readers to a detailed critique of the DVD The God Who Wasn't There found here. Wow, it's just like the old days, eh! (grin)
October 24, 2005
As I type this, Wilma is dumping plenty of rain and sending plenty of wind, but nothing serious. There's a small threat of tornadoes due to interaction with a cold front, but we don't expect trouble...
It's "Paine Killer" time! We've been yawning our way through an encounter with an obsessed fan of Thomas Paine who thinks the guy was deity, and that he can be defended in his errros with such detailed and formidable arguments as, "Paine's opinion was as good as anyone else's." So here's a couple of surprises. One, a new entry in the Classics Library for Paine in which we offer a number of rebuttals written to Paine's Age of Reason back in the days when it was written -- and see that he smelled no better then than he did now. Then, we have extensive updates to our own look at that work. Do your homework, Chucky.
Oh, and the new AC is being installed right now. Just in time for the first cold snap Monday. :-p
October 19, 2005
Looks like we may have a new AC put in Friday or Monday; meanwhile it is still hitting the high 80s outside and inside. I'm also watching the latest hurricane, though current models have it sweeping to our south, weaker than it is now, which for us will just mean....yep....rain and some wind, nothing spectacular. Meanwhile I also added some to the myths article (see last upload).
Site plug: Startup by a friend of ours, Prof. Enigma. Check it out.
October 14, 2005
Still sweltering, and still reading old articles. But we also have a new item on Leading Christian Myths -- a summation of popular misconceptions about Christianity, by Christians (and others).
October 13, 2005
Got a portable AC making things tolerable in one room of the house at a time. Meanwhile readers will recall an earlier appeal for Allan Glenn; we have another, similar notice for someone with the same disorder, but with a harder to find bloodtype. At Allan's request (and also to keep his case in eye) we'd like to note his story here in case anyone out there knows someone with that bloodtype.
The hurricanes didn't get me last year, but being in Florida has other curses. Here's the one that did get me: Something unknown (whether a rock thrown from the lawnmower, or kids throwing rocks) damaged our AC's outside condenser coil, and that wouldn't be so bad except that we're still reaching 90 degrees in the afternoon here right now. I'll spare readers the gory details of what this means (if you're interested, I've started a Locker Room thread on TWeb about it) other than that I'll try to juggle ministry activity around cooler times of day (since the computer can't stand temps over 85, according to my experts), and use of a portable AC unit a friend kindly loaned me, until we get the system replaced. In the meantime we have an addition to the Audio Library, answering a question for the youth: "Why is Christianity superior to other religions?" And review of older articles does continue.
In addition, Brent Hardaway has his sixth installment in the series, "Christianity and Capitalism".
October 4, 2005
Still reviewing old items and not making many changes, but it sure is funny to read stuff I wrote years ago and recognize it again. A reader did give me a pointer to add to the old article on George Smith. Meanwhile as well, a special prayer request for "B. L." who is having a troubling time.
September 30, 2005
It's time for another Profile in Balderdash with Farrell Till as star, as I have caught him blatantly misusing a scholarly source. In short, reason #5,433 why he no longer deserves or requires direct or detailed replies (as if he ever did!).
Added a little more to the Matthew study (link below).
Still reviewing articles, too. And: Website plug. Try out Preventing Truth Decay which has some fine stuff on Earl Doherty, for example, though we do not endorse the aspects devoted to the creation-evolution question.
September 27, 2005
This is a special notice. Please go to this website and if you can be of any help to this young man, we encourage you to do what you can. Allen Glenn and I of course have our ideological differences, but as readers who truly know me realize, it's never personal -- and that's why I'm making note of this and asking readers to do what they can for him. Thank you.
A reader provides a second version of the "Hank" parody.
I continue to review older items for changes and anachronisms. Nothing major so far...
September 20, 2005
I guess I ought to mention that Hurricane Rita is not heading towards me, though we're getting a little dousing from the outer rainbands as I type this.
At reader request, we have a look at a "refutation" of the Trinity by a site called "Biblelogic.com".
Added some more to the Matthew study (link below).
Have also been doing a periodic review of older items to keep them up to date. There will be no notice of changes here unless they are major.
September 19, 2005
Feeling masochistic again, so we have a look, at reader request, at a nutty site by one Joseph Macchio titled The Orthodox Suppression of Original Christianity.
One of our guest writers, Nick P., is in debate on TWeb with "Doubting John" Loftus here. Stop by and leave some comments in the gallery!
Stephen Van Eck still hasn't learned his lesson or how to use a PO Box. But I consider it beneath me to reply to him any further, so someone else has taken up the reply for me. You might not believe who...but it's quite appropriate....
Updated the item on Bushby's Bible Fraud with an extremely valuable note from "Punkish" about one of Bushby's alleged sources. Punkish also adds a few more entries to the Crimeline feature.
September 13, 2005
New Interlude with the Youth item in the Audio Library on the question, "Why does God allow things like Sept. 11 and Hurricane Katrina to happen?"
Oy, I really put this one off for bad behavior. But since there have been so many requests, we have a look at Tony Bushby's The Bible Fraud. Bleah. I'm still using Listerine to get rid of the taste...
Got some reader additions to our item on fantasy lit.
Oops! I did a meeting with the youth last night but was running late and forgot my little recorder. The question though was about free will and I used material from my item on unconditional election.
August Screwball of the Month feature is up, plus some new Tekton Toons: check out the new series, "Atheist Survivor". This section now includes a new, 100% apologetics-free section called the Tekton Toon Gallery. Consider this the "pictures on my desk" section which I may one day turn into a separate hobby site.
August 31, 2005
Some of you have kindly written asking if we made it through Katrina OK here. I wanted to let everyone know that where I am, Katrina dropped some rain on us from the outer bands soaking up moisture from the Atlantic, but it was less severe than one of our normal summer afternoon storms (not even any thunder or lightning, so even Toby made it through without a worry) and there was no wind to speak of and no damage of any kind. The first hit about 250 miles south of me was another story...
"Punkish" offers up some new entries for the Crimeline feature, post 1508.
August 30, 2005
We have a guest spot offering an extra on Wayne Adkins and Biblical genealogies.
Otherwise, putting final touches on the Da Vinci Code tract project. Because it is causing problems with this page, I have put a sample here and removed the old one below.
August 25, 2005
New item in the youth group interlude section of the Audio Library on the question, How do we know Christianity isn't just "made up"?
Special prayer request: One of our readers, James Juris, who also co-wrote one of the articles here on Mormonism, was recently seriously injured in what was actually an attempt at murder. He was trying to stop the commission of a violent crime upon a third party, and was thrown from a nine-story window, resulting in his neck being broken. He has recently returned home. Please be in prayer for him for healing and a recovery without pain.
August 24, 2005
Yep, here we go again; but I'm not too worried about Tropical Storm Katrina. This one looks like it'll drop a lot of rain and not much else.
Two guest spots: W. R. Miller has a collection of texts on the uniqueness of God, and "Joveia" has an item for us on atonement.
Meanwhile I've been working on a special non-web project -- in May, The Da Vinci Code movie will be coming out, and I am preparing a tract which can be passed out to those who go to see it. Sample page linked to in entry above. I'll see if someone wants to publish it, and if not, I may do it myself. More on that as weeks pass.
August 22, 2005
We start this round for a demand for a public apology from Farrell Till (aka "Skeptic X") for his slanderous commentary in a recent article of his. Within this article is offered proof of his presumptuous incompetence.
Guest writer W. R. Miller offers us an item titled, And God Said....
August 19, 2005
Been spending some time this week working on a special non-web ministry project -- more on that soon.
Guest writer W. R. Miller offers us a topical compiliation of Scriptures on the subject, Be Humble Before God.
Started a new section in the Audio Library titled, "Interludes with the Youth Group". My youth pastor uses me for an "Ask the Brain" feature for our middle and high school students. We answer one question a week. I'll post a recording if it turns out OK. The question this round:
I've also been spending some time planning projects with my local church. Ultimately, these projects I would like to use as a basis for expansion of Tekton outreach into different forms of media like DVDs. I'll provide updates on this at a later date.
August 9, 2005
Wrote up a "What's going on here?" item on Deut. 22:13-21.
Some people like digging holes for themselves, apparently. More of a response to our item on David Bercot; our response within. Alsom our reader who also responded to David Bercot has added his own comments.
Added a note to the item on Darrell Conder after a reader noted a reply to us on Conder's site.
Website plug! If you're in the mood to see some mixed nuts roasted, check out the reader wesbite here on the Book of Urantia!
Wayne Adkins snuffled out a response to the item linked below, which we respond to in the text.
Likewise, we were alerted to a response to our item on David Bercot; our response within.
Our friend Bede has suggested a new project which I will title The Bogus Quote Parade, in which we evaluate the authenticity of popular Skeptical soundbites. Bede has also made a comment in his journal about Edward Gibbon that I found fascinating enough to add to the encyclopedia.
July 1, 2005
By request, yet another look at an apostate turned anti-evangelist, Wayne Adkins. Nope -- he's got nothing better than the rest of 'em to offer.
A reader has contributed a second review of Warren's Purpose-Driven Life in PDF format.
It's no longer available on Amazon to review, but we also looked at a book titled Out of Order: Homosexuality in the Bible and the Ancient Near East that gave us new material for our essays on Lev. 18 and on homosexuality in Romans (now expanded to look at it in Corinthians and Timothy) plus a new item on homosexuality in Genesis.
I'm in a masochistic mood again, so we have commentary (by request) on two wacko Christ-mythers:
Also started up the Apologetics Bible Studies on Matthew with just what material we have on the site.
Nudda website plug!Dead White Guys, an appreciation of classic Christian material.
June 28, 2005
Added some more to the response to The Empty Tomb: Adeed a response to Ch. 14 (including comments from "the man" himself, Dr. Richard Swinburne!) and a response to Part 2 of Carrier's chapter on the resurrection body.
Wrapped up the 1-3 John Apologetics Bible Study Next up we'll do Matthew and Mark at the same time (in seperate studies) since they have so much overlap.
One more round with "judge" on the resurrection (link below).
Website plug! Try our friends at Apprising Ministries, especially if you liked the item we ran on Joel Osteen some weeks ago.
By request, an item on alleged contradictions between Joshua and Judges.
June 17, 2005
Added a bit more to the 1-3 John study (link below).
New website! Check out Answering Infidels, a new project. We have added links to some of the articles in our Encyclopedia.
June 15, 2005
We now launch the first stage of a more comprehensive version of The Nutshell Series.
We have had another intelligent set of answers to our Quiz for Skeptics, this time from Loren Rossen (whom some of you may recognize from his reviews of Context Group material on Amazon).
Guest writer W. R. Miller has been observing our TWeb discussion with John Loftus (link below) and has provided a Biblical Response to some of his posted claims.
In light of numerous relevant letters of late, I have a more personalized "advice" item titled So you want to be an apologist? written to those who are considering apologetics as a ministry.
Jason Long responded (guffaw) to our item on Biblical Nonsense pretty much the way we would have expected someone to respond when hit on the head with a slegdehammer: "Duh. What?" Our reply here.
John Loftus' From Minister to Honest Doubter -- actually, Loftus and I are discussing stuff on TWeb, so I don't have an actual review -- just a link to our discussion of his book
And last, the big Skeptical magilla for the season: Empty Tomb: Jesus Beyond the Grave edited by Robert Price and Jeff Lowder -- for this one, I (of course!) have set in motion a rebuttal project as needed; the link is to that, not a standard review
Also, though I loaded it Friday, I want to make note of a special point: I have caught Richard Carrier in what can only be either an outright lie or a case of gross incompetence with respect to the work of Zaehner on Zoroastrianism. See the details here.
May 31, 2005
New item in the Audio Library: a Sunday School lesson on Lamentations which I also used as a chance to bloviate on recent encounters with apostates. :-D
Started up the apologetics Bible study on 1-3 John with collected material from the site.
Special thanks to reader M. Mendes who translated our item on The Da Vinci Code into Brazilian Portuguese.
Here in Central FL we've had some storms roll off the Gulf that remind me that it's time to issue my usual note about what happens in the summer: A pattern of afternoon thunderstorms starts kicking in, and since this is the "Lightning Capital of the World" that means for the next few months I may have to shut down and unplug everything any time between 11 AM and 7 PM, and that may affect updates to the site.
May 26, 2005
Updated the Part 3 response to Carrier on TIF with some quite revealing information about his use of sources of Zoroastrianism.
I will be working on a couple of major background projects for the next few weeks, including a special development of the Nutshell series into a general-purpose Q and A feature. This means uploads will be a bit sparser than usual for a while.
May 24, 2005
Steve Hays tries to muck in the mud some more. Apparently he can't control himself either. :-D
May 20, 2005
Apparently Johnny is still shelling out the bucks, as Carrier has replied to some minute portions of our rebuttal to him on The Impossible Faith, though so far it is a bit of a disorganized mess. We've put a hub for our counter here.
Reader Jaye Beldo has allowed us to post his review of Acharya S' Christ Conspiracy.
And since we're on angry and unqualified apostates, we also have a look at one "Dr." (of pharmacy) Jason Long and his book Biblical Nonsense. Little new here for veteran readers.
May 18, 2005
Got a new item addressed to a jolly apostate named Eric Hildeman and relevant portions of his book, Creationism: The Bible Says No!
Guest writer Michael Belote lightens things up for us a bit with a satire (yes, satire) on the techniques of certain Skeptics...
Guest writer Jimmy Li also gives us an item on the claim that Timothy McVeigh was a "Christian terrorist".
By request, we have a look at a little item by the father of wayward psychology, Sigmund Freud, titled Moses and Monotheism.
Added more to the Romans Bible Study. I'll have to stop this one here because the local seminary library has a class on Romans and all the rest of the commentaries are on reserve. Maybe I'll get back to it later. For now, the next commentary will be on the 3 letters of John.
We had a friendly challenge from a Wiccan styled "Pendragon" to answer his 142 questions for Christians. We're well matched in one sense...we both like satire. Just so you know.
May 3, 2005
Your prayers are requested for an extremely serious situation. A few moments ago (about 11:30 AM) I received some tragic news concerning a friend whose young nephew committed suicide. Because I was personally involved with this young man's life it is possible that there will be no updates to the site for a while, as I have put myself at the disposal of my friend and his family for whatever needs can be fulfilled. However, more importantly, your prayers are appreciated for his family as they enter into this difficult time.
New feature:Tekton Toons -- it's time I took my skills as a cartoonist out of mothballs to skewer my most humorless and least competent opponents. This area will be updated every month at the same time as the Screwball feature (and on that, the one for April is now up since I'll be offline for most of the weekend).
April 22, 2005
Notice: TheologyWeb will be down for a bit while some maintenance is done.
Also added a new item on a confused chap named Vince Garretto, webmaster of a self-proclaimed liberal/universalist/"Christian" site called Free Christians. He doesn't like apologetics in general or us in particular.
Added more to the Romans study (link below).
April 20, 2005
Yep, as promised. More on Skeptic X and preterism, and it didn't take long because it was 95% old news.
April 19, 2005
The feature today, a memo to a (name withheld) Skeptic from Waco who sent me a copy of an article titled, "Flashbulb Memories". News flash: Been there, done that.
New item on one of Harpur's fave sources, Gerald Massey; this time, a look at his work, The Historical Jesus and Mythical Christ. This includes challenges for Massey/Harpur fans to answer some of our questions. Or dare I say, Harpur himself? Nah....
Skeptic X dates himself and his technique yet again with more on preterism.
Guest writer Nick P. takes on an oldy moldy, George Johnson's Is God a Trinity?
April 15, 2005
Did your taxes yet? Why not?
Added a little to the item on The Da Vinci Code in response to a critic.
Updated our item on Matthew 28:19 in response to a critique by an obscure little website I found while Googling.
Also by request, a look at one of those wacky fringe Christians, Stuart Dinenno. How wacky? Get this: 1) apologetics is unbiblical; 2) so are choirs in church; 3) the practice of "children's church" is "an anti-scriptural abomination." If you read this one, make sure you're seated and strapped in.
My thanks to IE users for their input on the problem we last mentioned.
April 11, 2005
Blech! I've been doing this one in the background for a while and it is good to be rid of it; a review-look at Alvin Boyd Kuhn's (rhymes with "Stark Loony Tunes") Who Is This King of Glory? (one of Harpur's sources for The Pagan Christ).
Also, we have a request for readers who use Internet Explorer. Please check the item on Simon Greenleaf’s Harmony of the Resurrection Accounts and tell us if you see any oddities, particularly changes in font style or unusual bits of code showing up.
Still feeling a little sadistic, so I took out some more to the curb, this time on a Jewish anti-missionary named Mordochai ben-Tziyyon.
And by reader request, a look at a newspaper column on the Resurrection by one James Dee -- which is probably typical of the Easter bunny journalism you'll see in the secular press this weekend. (smile) A blessed Resurrection Day to all!
March 23, 2005
Now have a reply up to Part 17 of Carrier's response to TIF.
Entered Round 3 of debate with Bud on Hume (link below).
One of our Scandanavian readers had a debate with Michael Baigent of that nutty Holy Blood, Holy Grail fame and has given us permission to post his thoughts.
Guest writer Ken Silva graciously offers up this item on Joel Osteen. And yes, I don't like these guys either; they decontexualize as bad as atheists.
Yup, he's back, and he's no smarter; it's Skeptic X on preterism again.
March 14, 2005
More in the Classics Library (link below).
It took a while, thanks to other opponents, but we now have a response from and to our most worthy Calvinist exchange partner, Calvino.
Added some new entries to the Classics Library. Also added a teensy note to the review of Leedom's The Book Your Church Doesn't Want You to Read-- apparently, the speech they have in it attributed to Chief Seattle is a forgery. Egad -- another Pope Leo X fiasco for the Skeptics....
March 3, 2005
Got three new book reviews, plus some additions to various essays from two of the books:
Mark Goodacre's Questioning Q, with additions from it made to our hub essay on the Q hypothesis.
As a convenience to readers, the responses to White and Hays has now been divided between the two, and dates of response have been added; and Hays has issued what appears to be a final response, which we reply to. In addition we now present an atomistic exegesis of Romans 9
We announce now the opening of a new section of Tekton, the Classic Apologetics Library. This will meet a need to collect classic works of apologetics into one virtual library. Special thanks to W. R. Miller for his great aid in compiliation. At the same time we have added some material to the section on personal testimonies of historical figures.
Also added more to the response to James White which includes reader feedback/response to White, and now a reply to one Steven Hays, whose reply White has referred to.
Opened debate with "skepticbud" on my article on David Hume. See here.
February 16, 2005
The word for the day is, "Owwwwwwwww." Yesterday I found myself having to go to the hospital for what I thought was some mild food poisoining, but which turned out to be a kidney stone. The physicians tell me it's small enough so that I can "let this too pass" but it will take a couple of days; in the meantime I may resort to "light duty" and not post anything new for a while. It really depends on how fast and how easily I can kick this thing out. Your prayers are appreciated.
Late update: Also added some points to the Rubicon essay.
February 6, 2005
Added a little more yet to the response to White (link below).
February 5, 2005
Added more to the response to White (link below).
February 4, 2005
Got another response to The Impossible Faith to deal with, but this one is much shorter and comes from -- of all people -- Robert Price. Don't worry, he's in one of his better moods this time.
Added a link in the Audio Library to an interview on KFUO's Issues Etc. concerning a Christian Research Journal article I wrote on religious trends in prisons.
We have a response to a response-in-the-making (so it seems) from James White to our article on unconditional election.
February 1, 2005
Added some material to the essay on self-esteem thanks to a helpful reader assist.
Added a new item to the Nutshell Series on the natore of hell; plus a link to the TULIP series summary.
Starting this month we have a new regular feature for Satire Central: Tekton's Featured Screwballs of the Month, where we will report the craziest, nuttiest, most outrageous statements and activities to cross our screen over the past month.
January 28, 2005
We begin our look at the sources of Harpur's Pagan Christ with a short sample about Alvin Boyd Kuhn and his essay, The Esoteric Structure of the Alphabet. Put on your anti-lunatic spray for this one.
Updated the essay on the authorship of Ephesians with a look at some objections going around.

Today we introduce a new project line I call The Nutshell Series -- which will feature simplified expositions on common issues addressed here. There's so far one original essay on the Trinity, another original essay on the Atonement, and one link on eschatology.
Updated Point 3 of the response to Carrier on TIF, thanks to some reader input from a newer scholarly source.
In the Audio Library, added a link to archived broadcast of an interview we had with KFUO, Issues Etc. program, on Mitch Albom's The Five People You Meet in Heaven.
We also have a plug for a reader's page to offer -- Justin Moser's site, john15.net is dedicated to presenting intelligent, well-informed expositions on various topics relevant to Christian faith and theology. Justin has contributed a few articles to Tekton, and in fact a couple of them are also published on his site. Enjoy!

Back from a nice trip to NC visiting family and friends. While I was away I was able to check mail a few times and a couple of people said that the front page looked odd (a column was out of whack). I think this is fixed now, but if you see that it is not, let me know. Meanwhile our first meal of the year, other than the one we had with Dr. Keptic on the table, is some recycled hash courtesy of Nadir Ahmed, who still hasn't learned his lesson.
Notice: All links on pages below from 2001-2002 and some from 2003 are not changed for our file restructuring and will be non-operable.
