Luke's version is regarded by Stein [106] as more theologically primitive, which we would take in favor of direct use of an Ur-Matthew. Luke adds a direction to the man to proclaim the kingdom of God; but in fairness, how is this more primitive? It only makes explicit what is implicit in Matthew -- the man wanted to join Jesus to proclaim the kingdom, which is already what Jesus was said to be doing (Matt. 3:2).
