Would you like to help get the next book in the Building Blocks series published?

A year ago, Tekton held a special pledge drive for the second book in the Building Blocks series, which now has the title Trusting the New Testament. That book is now in final editing stages, and was sent to the printer on February 28, 2009.

Let it never be said that I sit on my laurels! The next book in the series will be on the Resurrection, and I intend for this one to be "the ultimate" defense, addressing the Resurrection from every angle. Just take a look at the proposed Table of Contents below to see what I mean.

So once again, I make the appeal as I did last year: Are you willing to fund my work? I'd like to find several benefactors, who would love to pool together to contribute to Tekton to undertake this serious project over the next 8-10 months. This project, like the last two, will be an expansion on my previous work on those subjects, updating and adding to it to create a thoroughgoing, all-bases-covered apologetic for the resurrection.

In that time I would finish all the research, read every relevant book on all sides of the questions, thoroughly research every item (not just those I find important), and write a book of professional quality for publication by Tekton's ministry.

The goal was previously $5,000, but has now (3/13/09) been lowered to $4,400, with $1,000 of that going for printing costs and the rest to ensure that I have the time I need to finish it all. I found out about some financial advantages for the ministry I did not know about, so I've been able to reduce a couple of line items in the budget, including this one.

If this work is funded now, the book will be completed within twelve months, and will likely appear in print in 2010. I have my previously written material that in effect serves as a preliminary outline for this book.

And here's a new aspect of the equation: Getting this work done will provide an answer in print to a major Skeptic. See more on this below.

If you think this project worth it, or you want to talk about it, please contact me directly by email. Let me know how much you would be willing to offer to this project, to see it happen. Spread the word, too. I'll track the progress with a graphic on the front page.

For a one-time contribution, just click the l'il button below! You can also help out by subscribing to the E-Block or to the Tekton Apologetics University.

A few folks want to contribute over time. For that, you can use one of the buttons below, but please add a note to the PayPal message indicating that it is for this project!

$5 $7 $10 $15 $20 $25 $30

If the amount you wish to provide is not listed here, please contact me and I will set up a special and temporary page.

Or, if you prefer, you may mail a check. Our mailing address is:

Proposed Table of Contents

This represents what, at a minimum, I want to put into this book. I may add more later as time permits.

Foreword

Introduction

Section 1: The Exegetical Basis

Section 2: The Legal/Evidential Basis

Section 3: The Ideological Basis

Section 4: The Social Basis -- Basically, more detailed versions of Impossible Faith arguments.

Section 5: The Historical Basis -- from fringe to more reasonable

Addendum: Richard Carrier Quacks Again!

Some will recall that some time ago, a Skeptic paid infidels.org denizen Richard "Quacks in Greek" Carrier $5,000 to write a response to The Impossible Faith. Note that this was after Carrier had publicly said I "wasn't worth replying to" -- apparently, he meant, "unless I get paid for it"!

Well, it seems that Carrier thinks I'm some sort of piggy bank for him, since he has now elected to re-publish his response to TIF in book form -- and therein does he deceive in his usual fashion.

First, Carrier poses his book as a response to the book version of TIF, which it is not. The book version of TIF was specifically designed as a "food for thought" version of the detailed online thesis, as is clearly indicated. In fact it also doesn't contain 85% of what's in the online TIF, and adds more Resurection defense stuff. That said, the upcoming book reported on here WILL have 100%+ of what I have online, and much more.

Second, Carrier is shameless enough to admit that his book offers nothing new. In his words, nothing so significant that you "need" to buy the book if you're content with the online text. It's a shameless cash grab by Carrier and nothing more.

Third, Carrier imagines that his work is "pretty conclusive" as a refutation -- yet by his own admission of having nothing new, it fails to address my own rebuttal to his efforts. Carrier's book is outdated even before it hits the presses! (But he does have some advantages for you -- such as "if you want to start building a Richard Carrier collection on your bookshelf" and "nails it hard to one of the most annoying apologetic windbags on the web." That's me he means! ;) )

So it is! Now this new book of my own will serve another purpose as a rebuttal to Richie's book. Think of it as a way to nail it hard to the most annoying atheist....well, you get the idea! ;)
