These are collections of prophetic oracles. They were most likely delivered orally at various dates and only later combined into a written volume.

- Jeroboam shall die by the sword and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of there own land. One Skeptic sets this against 2 Kings 14:29, which says "Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead," This he says is "clearly implying that he did not die by the sword. 'Slept' is not the biblical word used for those who die by the sword." And what Hebrew word study do we have to prove this? None. In fact, Ahab died a very violent death, and dogs licked up his blood afterwards, yet the Bible still says that Ahab "rested" with his fathers (1 Kings 22:37, 40), and it uses the same Hebrew word (shakab, which means "laid down"). This also applies to Jer. 22:18-19.
- Amos 7:14, 17
- One Skeptic says: "Amos told Amaziah that his wife would be a harlot in the city and his sons and daughters would fall by the sword and he would die in a polluted land. Yet Amaziah’s son Uzziah succeeded him on the throne and died a leper; so he could not have been a child who was slain by the sword. In addition, 2 Kings 14:19 says Amaziah was slain in Lachish in Judah, which was no more polluted than any other territory in the age of the prophets." But these are two different Amaziahs, and Amos 7:10 clearly states that his Amaziah was the priest of Bethel. The Amaziah in Kings is a king.
